Is Wild Deodorant Vegan?

💇‍♀️ Emma Barber

You might be thinking...surely all deodorants are vegan? Whilst Wild is vegan, there are some mainstream brands that may test on animals or use ingredients derived from animals to keep your um, “fragrant” pits at bay!

Let us explain...

Animal testing 🐁

The use of animals to test cosmetics products or their ingredients is banned in the UK and across most of Europe but there are countries across the world where animals are still used to test cosmetics ingredients and products. The good news is the use of animal testing is a declining practice and more and more people are rejecting such products as it is often not justifiable or even necessary to test an ingredient or product on an animal.

Animal-derived products 🐟

You might not even realise that some deodorants use ingredients derived from animals as part of their odour-controlling formula. These products aren’t exactly every day terms so they can hide in plain sight in the ingredients list because not many people know what they mean or which ingredients to look out for.

For example, there are deodorants and antiperspirants that use Gelatin Crosspolymer which is a skin conditioner and is also used to prevent smelly bacteria from developing. This is gelatine made from fish parts containing collagen (for example, the fish's scales).

Fish scales are also often used in non-vegan lipsticks (to give it that shimmery pearl-like appearance) alongside crushed up red bugs for the pigment - so be sure to check that other parts of your personal care routine aren’t undermining your Veganuary efforts!

We're proud to be vegan & cruelty-free 🌿

At Wild we've kept it simple and cruelty-free too; we never use animal-derived ingredients nor test on animals and we have The Vegan Society trademark seal of approval to shout this loud and clear! 🐇

The Vegan Society defines the word 'animal' to refer to the entire animal kingdom - meaning all vertebrates and all multicellular invertebrates out there in the big wild world are included in this definition.

We’re so pleased to have earned this stamp of approval back in August 2021 so that those of you looking to join the Wild side could do so with confidence!

So, to sum up: Yes! Wild is vegan (and proud to be!)
