At Wild, we believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. But for too many young LGBTQIA+ people, that’s not a reality. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to be partnering with AKT, the UK-based charity dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA+ youth facing homelessness.
Who are AKT?
AKT (Albert Kennedy Trust) is a life-changing charity that works with 16-25-year-olds in the LGBTQIA+ community who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. They provide vital support, including safe housing, financial assistance, mentorship, and mental health resources—helping young people not just survive, but thrive.
Why is this important?
Homelessness is a crisis in the UK, but it disproportionately affects LGBTQIA+ youth. Here’s why:
🏳️🌈 1 in 4 young people experiencing homelessness identifies as LGBTQIA+ (that’s 24%—a staggering number when you consider that LGBTQIA+ people make up a much smaller percentage of the general population).
🏡 Many are forced out of their homes due to family rejection, abuse, or discrimination—leaving them without a safe space to turn to.
🛑 LGBTQIA+ youth experiencing homelessness are at a higher risk of mental health issues, substance misuse, and exploitation, often struggling to access services that are inclusive and understanding of their unique challenges.
What are we doing?
For the next 12 months (and beyond!), we’re committed to supporting AKT in as many ways as we can:
💜 An initial financial donation to help fund essential services for young people in need. 🎉 Fundraising events—because every penny counts when it comes to supporting AKT’s mission. 📚 Education & awareness—both internally and externally, to ensure we’re amplifying the voices of those affected. 🤝 Skill sharing & mentorship—helping to equip young people with the tools they need for a brighter future. 🎁 Product donations—because everyone deserves access to personal care, no matter their situation.
This is just the start. Over the next year, we’ll be sharing ways you can get involved, donate, and support AKT alongside us. Keep an eye out for fundraising events, educational content, and opportunities to take action.
